Winged Mother With Sturdy Shoes #5: A Moment to Breathe
Here's a detail from the painting I finished today - this work was begun months ago and then set aside as I worked on larger paintings. It is painted on a small wooden cradle panel with the painting continuing over the edges onto the four sides. The figure is cut out of wood so that she appears to be floating above the landscape. Like Winged Mother #3, this figure is anchored to her house by her hair.

You'll find me in the studio ...
I am delighted to report that I sold two paintings from the Sturdy Shoes series today.
I'll be in the studio for most of the next week finishing off several canvases, including 7 wee ones and a 30" x 40" one that I started yesterday, (I was feeling energized yesterday!) and also the large one that I've been working on for a few weeks.
Wish me focus!

Another art quote ...

Serendipity
This morning as I was watering the garden just outside my studio door, I heard a rustling sound and as I looked up into the evergreen clematis vines I saw movement. Taking a step closer, I saw that a robin was settling into a nest it had built in the clematis, dead centre above my studio door. How delightfully serendipitous - I've been painting robins into my works for the past 8 months and here was one making its home within a few feet of my easel. I feel blessed today.

Today's quote
"A painting is never finished - it simply stops in interesting places."
~ Paul Gardner
How true! It's often difficult to take a painting off the easel because it could use just one more little dab of colour here ... and a little sharper detail there ... and maybe I'll just redo that bit ... oops, now it doesn't look quite right ... I think I should undo the redo ... ahhhh, now that's so much better ... but ... oh ... maybe just one more little dab of colour here ...
